The Downstream Challenge is BP’s early career graduate development programme, the aim of which is to build fully competent independent professionals within a discipline to support business delivery across the Southern Africa business. It is a competency-based programme which provides graduates with practical experience and formal learning while building discipline foundations. In South Africa and Mozambique, the programme typically runs over 24 months and consists of rotations depending on the business requirements. The actual time could be longer or shorter depending on individual circumstances and experience.

Who We Are
BP SA is one of the largest oil companies in South Africa, with over 500 BP service stations nationwide.
The company focuses on the refining and marketing of fuels and lubricants. Crude oil is processed at the SAPREF refinery, while lubricants are manufactured at an oil blending plant located in Durban. In addition to a national network of BP-branded service stations, we operate nine depots and three coastal installations, as well as the largest rail gantry in Africa located in Pretoria with planned upgrades to key depots
BP’s cutting-edge Fuels Technology Centre in Johannesburg further boosts the company’s ability to provide differentiated fuels to the South African market.

In order to be eligible for the Downstream Challenge, you will need to have completed either an Honours or four-year engineering degree
We look to recruit graduates with qualifications in the following disciplines: Business – supply chain and logistics; finance/ economics; sales and marketing; HR; IT; Legal; Property; Science - environmental and chemistry; Engineering - mechanical; chemical/ process; electrical/ electronic/ mechatronics/ electro-mechanical or civil engineering
There is a minimum requirement of an honours degree, an academic average of at least 65% and one year or less of professional work experience
Depending on the discipline you are applying for, we have premises based in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, East London or Mozambique
