And the Oscar goes to...

Last night, or at least in the early hours of the morning the 84th Annual Academy Awards was held.

Great if your are an American, but not so much as a South African as we have not even seen half the movies.

None the less it is a massive occasion to inflate the egos and paychecks of actors and actresses and this year saw some firsts at the awards. 

After its performance at the Golden Globes it was no suprise to see Michel Hazanavicius' "The Artist" win 5 Oscars. South African ausiences will only be able to see why, come 16 March with the film finally graces our shores.

The Artist is also first Silent Film to win the Oscar since 1927.

Meryl Streep extends her record as the most nominated perfomer to 17.
